—in other words , that “minority” that accounts for the bulk of crime in the US (mostly against its own members) has been priced out of these places —where did they go?
Somebody has to work in all those shops, restaurants and other small businesses. During the 1970s, those neighborhoods were mostly burnt-out shells and the kids had nothing to do but join gangs and get in trouble. Now that I work in NYC, I like to see movies that were filmed in NYC back in the bad, old days like "Taxi Driver", "Warriors" and "Dog Day Afternoon". A much different NYC back then. Even the subway stations these days are getting Starbucks.
