Sen. Ted Cruz, Donald Trump's former chief rival for the GOP nomination, will speak at the Republican National Convention later this month, the Texas senator told reporters after the two met Thursday in Washington.
Cruz told reporters Thursday that the real estate mogul offered his former primary rival a speaking slot during the meeting and Cruz accepted. He added that he and Trump did not discuss an endorsement.

The future may tell that Cruz was the frog. A president can make or break a senator. And Cruz is very fragile in his position in Texas elections. From what I’ve read, he’s created a huge animosity in his base to the point where alternates are being wooed.
He does have a tendency to ramble.
From what I’ve heard, the convention is not going to have the endless parade of politicians droning on and on, which will be an improvement.

Cruz has yet to endorse Trump. I assure you he has been shown a man of low honor for this. Particularly since he was a signer of the pledge to endorse support and work to elect the Republican nominee. This is the first inkling that he even intends to maybe live up to his sworn pledge.
Kasuck and several other Republican candidates are even worse.

I have a feeling this is what’s going to happen. He *has* to be on that list, but I haven’t seen anyone mention him as a candidate. Moreover, Texas is safe and Abbot should appoint someone we’d all like if Cruz does become VP.
This move would unify the party. Despite the campaign mudslinging, I don’t think Ted is evil incarnate though I do question his willingness to team up with the old guard and psychopaths like Glen Beck even though I suspect he was simply doing anything to win. Still, I’d take that risk. I don’t think he’s part of the DC cabal.
Moreover, I think the fact that the Bushes, Romney, McCain, and the rest of the old guard not showing up is going to *help*, not hurt Trump. The Dems are making a big deal out of that with “milk cartons” detailing that they are not showing up. Given the state of the nation, they’re doing good work for Trump :-).
Finally, while not related to this article, I think Rubio is making a mistake not showing up at the convention. He’d get a prime time speaking appearance. That would only help him in Florida during his re-election campaign. He has got to quit taking advice from the DC elite class ... they’re done for and the guy could certainly earn back some trust if he’d do the right thing and support Trump wholeheartedly. Floridians know damn well the difference between “immigrants” and illegal immigrants” ... all Marco needs to do is draw a line and define *exactly* what the difference is and why the “illegal” modifier plays a role in destroying this nation.
As for the rest that dropped out ... Bushes, Romney, McCain, Kasich ... best of luck to all of you. It’s pathetic that you can’t see the forest through the trees, but I think it’s better for the nation if you simply kick back and watch these people capable of delivering on promises for a better, more conservative United States ... you certainly paid lip service and gave us minor tokens of appreciation here and there over the years, but the time has come to fight this disgusting liberal cabal head on since it is killing this country ... a fight none of you were willing to engage when you had power.
Trump doesn’t need them and he doesn’t need Ted. Events on the ground here and abroad are going to continue to decline. Every news article on this site is depressing. Things will only go further down hill. Every depressing article only helps Trump. The bad actors in the republican need him and you can see it starting to happen. Trump will make mistakes but the world is headed for the toilet. What it is is what it is.
I would much prefer that Trump announce that he will be his pick to replace Scalia on the Supreme Court.
Cruz gets put on the top of the list for SCOTUS with a little back scratchin’ first.
Remember Cruz has been preprogrammed by his father. Its his birth right. Supreme Court a step down.

There is no way Trump/Cruz/RNC do not have a detailed, ironclad agreement about Cruz’s speech. Endorsement will definitely be forthcoming, but held til the speech for additional drama. Trump is great at this stuff.
At first I assumed most of Cruz’ supporters were conservative enough to try to save what’s left of the country by voting to stop Hillary/keep her out of the WH. From comments like yours, it sounds like quite a few Cruz supporters are just itching for a chance to vote for Hillary, as a way of getting back at Trump and his supporters.

I do not believe Cruz will be the VP.
I suspect a significant percentage (as close to 100%) of former Cruz supporters will pull the lever for Trump when they get in the voting booth and they see the actual choices in front of them: Trump or Hillary. Consequently, I don’t think Cruz would add that many votes to the ticket.
I know many Cruz supporters disagree—saying they would never vote for Trump. I said the same thing about Romney. Yet, when I got in the booth and looked at the choices—Romney or Obama, I voted Romney.
On the other hand, Rand Paul might encourage a number of Bernie voters to cross over and vote for Trump. Given that they will associate Rand Paul with Ron Paul, who has a sterling reputation when it comes to being anti-establishment.
And that’s what this election is boiling down to, not left vs right, but establishment vs anti-establishment.
You don’t need Cruz or his supporters to win, do you?
I have been informed by several people on this forum who are in the know that his conservative voting record, his free market advocacy in his early career and his high school debate of Austrian economics and the Constitution was all an intricate ruse. He doesn't believe any of that stuff. Trump does though.
Trump needs Cruz and don’t think Cruz doesn’t need Trump. Cruz has made as many enemies in the GOPe as Trump has, maybe more.
