The State Department is reopening its internal review of Hillary Clinton's use of email now that the Department of Justice has completed its investigation, a department spokesman said Thursday evening.
"Given the Department of Justice has now made its announcement, the State Department intends to conduct its internal review," State Department spokesman John Kirby said Thursday.
Kirby said that he could not provide specific details about what information the department would be evaluating.
"We will aim to be as expeditious as possible, but we will not put artificial deadlines on the process," he added. "Our goal will be to be as transparent as possible about our results, while complying with our various legal obligations."
The State Department started its review in January after declaring 22 emails from Clinton's private server to be "top secret" but suspended its review in April to avoid interfering with the FBI's inquiry, according to The Associated Press.
The announcement comes days after FBI Director Comey said Clinton was "extremely careless" when she used her personal server during her tenure with the State Department, but recommended no criminal charges be brought against the presumptive Democratic nominee.
And an Thursday, Comey defended his decision not to charge Clinton before a Republican-led House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing.
The FBI director said Clinton "did not break the law" and that there was not enough evidence to charge her with a crime.

At this point, what difference does it make? /s
This is the just the final whitewash the Government is going to apply over the Clinton State Department scandal. Then when she campaigns it’s not 1, but 2 agencies that cleared her.
Agreed...this ‘investigation’ is being performed by the State Dept...of course its meant to sweep this under the rug.
WTF ever....
More than likely, that is exactly what will happen.
They’ll bury it as much as they can. And pepper in a few “Donald Trump” to make it look like Hillary had done nothing wrong; Donald made her do it.
#HillaryLiesMatter
No, this is actually a RESUMPTION of a State Dept. investigation.
It was suspended and referred to the FBI when they found classified emails on the server.
Maybe they’ll strip her of her pension.
This is so that the state department can get its hands on all the FBI evidence and dispose of it and do damage control where necessary.
John Kirby and all the little turds at the state dept can kiss my ass. Too little too late to save any lives now you stupid jackwagons.
We may find, that either Herself is not very, um, Ess Em Aye Are Tee, or that perhaps is the most malicious person ever to be actively considered for election to the office of Presidency of the United States.
Certainly ht degree of arrogance Herself displays ranks right up there in the same magnitude as that of the Current Occupant.
I thought there was a teensy weensy chance James Comey would recommend to indict. In this case I believe there is less chance that the State Dept. will find anything wrong. It’ll turn out, “everyone does it, anyway”, or she had special permission or “if the FBI has no problem, why should we”, etc.
This will be a whitewash, because if they were to find she was not following proper protocols, then it’s a black stain on the whole State Department. Just not gonna happen. Also, whatever report is issued, will be long after the election just to make sure it will have no impact.
Thank goodness State is looking into this!
OH PLEASE. The State Department is just doing this so they too can come out and say “We found absolutely no wrong doing by the most honorable and equal Hillary Clinton.”
This is what you call your karaoke dance.
This makes sense, and gives a good motivation for pushing this reopened investigation out of the [current] news: that way people won't be actively following it until they're ready to unveil it.
The guy quoted is John Kirby.
Ah, you're right; I'd forgotten that the ball was passed to the FBI from the State Department.
