How many guys carry their licenses in their front SHIRT pocket? Most would be fumbling with their back pants pocket to pull out a wallet wouldn’t they?

I got pulled over for no taillight (fishing expedition) last week. When the cop asked for ID I said, “It’s in my left jacket pocket. May I retrieve it?” and waited for his permission. Then I said, “The registration is in the glove compartment, May I retrieve it?” and again waited for permission before I moved a muscle.

He gave me a verbal warning and let me go.

I stopped carrying a wallet years ago. A money clip is more compact and simpler and one doesn’t need to carry much around in a wallet anymore, and of course a wallet is an easily spotted target for pickpockets while a money clip in the front pocket not so much.

Since I know what the officer is going to ask for, usually get my wallet and paper work out before he even exist his vehicle, then wait for him with my hands on the wheel.

I have been advised to put my wallet on the dash. Imagine how that would work out running errands around town. Maybe on a long road trip, but not for regular commuting and running around.
