Retired General Michael Flynn, a possible vice presidential candidate for Donald Trump, appeared on ABC's This Week on Sunday to discuss why he supports the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Transcript, via ABC News:

RADDATZ: You've been a registered Democrat, correct?

FLYNN: I grew up as a -- in a -- in a -- I grew up as a Democrat in a very strong Democratic family. But I will tell you that the Democratic Party that exists in this country is not the Democratic Party that I grew up around in my -- in my upbringing, not a

This is a very true statement. My grandparents and almost all of my family were Democrats back in 50’s and 60’s and 70’s.

I was raised and grew up in Toledo; very strong middle class, union, factory city ran by Democrats for about 50 years.

Today, Toledo is a ghost town; lot of gangs, middle class neighborhoods run down, boarded up, abandoned. 3 of 4 original malls shut down because they started bussing people from downtown to those areas which got taken over by ghetto people.

I cry when I occasionally go back to see family. It is not the city I remember which was very prosperous. It it really like a mini-Detroit now.

That is the argument you make on a state-by-state basis.

The people who argue against the Supreme Court overstepping their authority from the political left can’t argue for that same overstepping of authority from the political right.

To your due process argument, do you have a problem when a woman has an ectopic pregnancy (approximately 1 in 50 or so chance) and the pregnancy is terminated (read: aborted)? I would hope not. Was there due process for the infant? No.

You may claim that’s not abortion. I argue that it is if you define abortion as the human intervention in a pregnancy where the death of the fetus is almost certain.

Does not plenary police power reside with the states? I believe it does.

I agree with you 100%. The only way we win is if issues the feds have no Constitutional authority to meddle in go back to the states. That's where we can win hearts and minds.

We never win if we let the GOP elite scare us with social issues every election, then contrive ways so they're never solved in our favor.

The first duty of all officers of government, in every branch, at every level, is to provide equal protection for the supreme right, the right to live. This is the raison d’etre of human government. This is the first principle of the American republic. Take away that cornerstone, as you are doing, and the entire edifice WILL fall.

News Flash - the current officers of government have collapsed the edifice.

You really want what you say you want? The officers that are there now need to be replaced with those that will actually repair the damage. That means putting forward candidates that can win, not just pass the purist litmus test but have no skill in prosecuting a successful election campaign.

Trump isn’t perfect, but he’s good enough on the judge issue to get the conservative majority restored at the Supreme Court. Works for me.

I challenge you to find in any of my comments where I advocate against equal protection and due process.

You are good at complaining about what you don’t like, but I’m not seeing from you any suggestions for workable solutions.

I’m also not seeing from you where my views on the path forward and the level of government where police power resides is incorrect.

It's easy. Require everyone in public office to fulfill the primary reason for the existence of that office, which is the equal protection of our God-given, unalienable rights.

And don't support candidates who think genocide must be supported.

I never thought I would see the day that FReepers are okay with a Democrat Vice President who supports abortion.

If I said what I think I would be banned. So, a “no comment” will have to do.

Not talking about GOPe leaders like the Bushes. I am talking about conservatives who supported people like Bush. He needs someone who knows how tge system operates and who is not part of it - like Gingrich.
