CLEVELAND, Ohio - Case Western Reserve University, under fire by students and faculty for housing police on campus during the Republican National Convention, has decided to hold no classes, summer camps or other activities on campus from July 18-21.
The action, announced late Monday, was taken to ease ongoing concerns over housing 1,700 police officers and 200 members of the Ohio National Guard during the four-day event, especially following last week's deaths of two black men by police in Louisiana and Minnesota and the killing of five Dallas police officers.
President Barbara Snyder held two forums on campus July 6 after students and faculty voiced concerns over housing the police.
Students wanted the university to require the officers to store their weapons off campus, for the officers to stay out of university-owned buildings that aren't their assigned residence halls, and for the university to provide alternative housing for students uncomfortable with the increased police presence.

This misguided mentality coming from the next generation of leaders in our nation? PRAY for AMERICA.
In all probability God has abandoned America and the proposed prayers of the people will constitute a stench in his nostrils.
"Nevertheless, given the current national context, I regret that I described such behavior as 'profiling,' and that I was not more careful with my language," she wrote Monday.

On the face of it, pathetic. But that presence most likely threatens the agenda of some or many of the students and faculty members.
Impression from "south side". Cleveland might be just about cleared out, with no normal activity, during the convention. Most folks are a bit concerned that there isn't enough firmness being shown to protestors and marchers. Besides that, so much is closed off that getting downtown and parking will be a quagmire.
Cuyahoga Community is shutting down
Cleveland State is open, but no classes
how can they stay open if most if not all the faculty is protesting against the United States at the convention?
To the writer: IT’S SUMMER YA SPAZ!
It used to be nestled in the ghetto, with students appreciative of any security provided (including that provided by the mafia through the safest egress through Little Italy). I understand that the university has done some ethnic cleansing of the immediate area since then.
The want the university as a “safe haven” staging ground.
This is not a European socialism university.
Police and and SHOULD raid radical campus groups.
(not there are no normal people protests planned just these wackadoes against the USA.)
This is sickening.
Rational takeaway: guns are very bad and profiling must be avoided at all costs.
Sounds like elements of a totalitarian plan.
My daughter actually got an excellent nursing education at Case. It’s a beautiful campus, just a few miles away from the convention. Severance Hall (for those of you who like classical music), while technically not part of the campus, is surrounded by the campus. It is a spectacular place to watch a concert. It makes sense for the police to be there.
I actually like Cleveland a lot. It’s too bad that BLM and others are going to trash the place.
The students at Case should wake up. It’s the police that are going to keep them safe.
