Seems we belong to the same family. My son is a Marine as well, retired after 20+ years Airborne, ANGLICO...First Gulf War.
I taught him to shoot when he was small and he grew up hunting. First Day in boot camp he shot expert and instructor asked where he learned to shoot. “My mom taught me.”
He is an excellent shot and has taught many others the finer points of marksmanship. I think every child should be taught the safe handling of weapons. There wouldn’t be “accidents” that way. I’ve taught my children and grandchildren as well as a lot of women. I still enjoy hunting and trap shooting as well. Gunpowder is in my blood.

I taught all 3 of my sons to shoot. My wife as well. Oldest son passed in 2012. The kids are out of the house now. Trips to the range are "date nights". My wife helps with reloading as well. Gunsmithing is my hobby. Mostly custom builds with off the shelf components. It's more fun to build exactly what you want instead of taking 2nd best factory offerings. It seems my time is spent more creatively i.e. writing software or building firearms than enjoying the fruits of my labor. C'est la vie.
