CLEVELAND Millions of dollars short and running out of time, organizers of the Republican National Convention have written an urgent request for $6 million to Las Vegas billionaire couple Sheldon and Miriam Adelson to cover the bills for next weeks festivities.
In a letter to the Adelsons, obtained by POLITICO, the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee revealed the names of more than two dozen prominent corporations and individuals who have reneged on a collective $8.1 million in pledged donations.
The letter represents the most public acknowledgment to date that Donald Trump has directly cost convention organizers millions of fundraising dollars.
Over the past couple months, negative publicity around our potential nominee resulted in a considerable number of pledges backing out from their commitments, the letter says.
It goes on to list the companies and wealthy individuals who have withdrawn their financial commitments. Among those who have canceled their donations, according to the letter, are David Koch ($1 million), FedEx ($500,000), Visa ($100,000), Pepsi ($500,000) and Coca-Cola ($1 million).

Being a Texan, make that a DP for me. RC is still around?
As to lack of funds - so the big cats don’t wish to spend because of Trump. Consumers can show the same pleasure by refusing to support those fat cats.
Why would ANY publicly traded company that markets to ALL people donate money to EITHER political party?
I think they should stay out of it.
Unmentioned here is that many of these companies who withdrew have decided to contribute to neither Party.
Both Party’s are facing shortfalls.

All are to big for us to have any financial impact on.
“All are to big for us to have any financial impact on.”
There is that. Also, the fact that people aren’t going to give up using their Visa debit cards and credit cards, buying Coke or Pepsi products, using any computer other than a Linux based unit, printing on their HP printer, driving and buying a Ford, etc. It is a bit overwhelming when dealing with companies this large.
Even if EVERYONE banded together and boycotted these companies, it would put the US in complete financial ruin. We would truly be a third world country! (Some could argue....)
Simple...spend less.

Exactly.
And aren’t these conventions anachronistic in today’s age of instant communication? Surely, there is a way to do this more efficiently.
The Republican Establishment can go pound sand.
They want to blame Trump for their problems.
It’s their own fault. They relied on corporations for money after their base got fed up with their antics and stopped donating.
Golly gee whiz!
I certainly hope my refusal to contribute to the GOP, RNC, etc. in no way added to this lack of funds.
(wish I knew the emoticon for dripping disdain)
The orange toad has been running around the country crowing about being the richest man in the universe. Let him dig into his own deep, deep pockets to pay for his coronation party.
With weapon not on sight, that moron has his finger on the trigger.
With weapon not sighted on target, that moron has his finger on the trigger.
“Orange toad”???
Hey Jim....ZOT ALERT!!!!!!
Eh...
Just one person exercising his freedom of speech. We don’t have to agree or like it.
Dr. Pepper. The only one headquartered in a southern, Republican city.
RC in the US is now controlled by Dr Pepper.
Shouldn’t you be working on the Hillary campaign, or at a Black Lives Matter rally today?
I didn’t know that. DP has been preferred drink since the sixty’s. Do you live in Tex? Perhaps you could help in remembering another Texas beverage about that same time in the sixties or perhaps early 70s
It was the color of ginger ale fizzled like champagne but no alcohol. Can’t remember the taste maybe a low key passive grape flavor like white grapes maybe. The name escapes me and I’ve not seen it in stores for many a year. Not even in the on line retailers who specialize in long forgotten beverages. The name might have begun with a ‘C’ but uncertain in that.
Sorry, I hadn’t gotten to Texas yet.
As I recall, RC was acquired by Snapple, which was acquired by Cadbury-Schweppes, as was Dr Pepper; Schweppes then combined Dr Pepper and the Snapple drinks, and later spun them off.
