Unpaid bills from illegal immigrants have nothing to do with that premium increase /sarc
Bending the curve and all that BS.....
Ours is expected to double.......................
At that rate of increase premiums will double in about 5 years. Of course, the rate of increase will probably accelerate. I try to explain that to people here in California, but it is a waste of breath.
This is what happens when you let bureaucrats and politicans make economic policies for industry. As the story says, fewer people signed up than anticipated, and those who did use more services than anticipated. Which is exactly what anyone who gave the plan any real thought said would happen. I am no fan of these regulations, but if you allow on-demand enrollment (which is not exactly what we have as policy but it is a big part of the problem) and don’t make the fines for not enrolling equivalent to the cost of a plan, then this outcome is entirely predictable. People who could not be covered before due to existing conditions are now enrolling (many enroll in December and stop paying premiums in February) to get expensive treatments, while the healthy who cannot afford or don’t want to pay choose to stay on the sidelines. Not to mention that out of pocket costs are much higher for everyone enrolled in any plan, which is partially masking the true extent of the economic problem. The higher premiums and deductibles which everyone who was insured before greatly resents only suck money from their pockets and the economy. It’s impossible imo that these costs are not a big part of the economic malaise. Employers have less money to invest, and employees have less discretionary income to spend on goods and services. Flooding the economy with almost $2 trillion a year in deficit spending and QE combined is not enough to jump start the private sector.

...but...but...Social Security says somewhere between 0 and 0.7% inflation/raise this year. Basically, there is no inflation...
Fewer people are signing up through the exchanges than anticipated, and they’re using more health care services than anticipated. That’s left insurers with fewer customers to share the overall cost.
