Likewise grew up in the 60s. Even with the riots, I traveled and socialized in areas that were ghettoized in my own urban area when I was in my 20s. While some of that is the perceived invulnerability of youth, I think these same areas, still with the same ghetto culture, are worse now.

The people that live there make them what they are, both then and now.

Agreed. And as a country, a society, we still had respect and a core of faith. There were values we agreed on, often upspoken, but apparent. That is utterly gone. The majority no longer seems to believe. ..in anything.
