I can just imagine Democratic organizers handing out “affidavit care packages” with instructions on where to go and how to most easily get and process these affidavits.
I never understood this either until I volunteered at Church working with homeless people. Also, with trying to get my adult son a state Id from another state.
Lot of different scenarios:
1) In some states if you have unpaid court fines, owe child support they put a warrant hold on your drivers license.
2) If you have a warrant for arrest, even like traffic issue, failure to appear in court bench warrant, etc, they put a hold on drivers license and sometimes state Id’s.
Folks afraid to get ID because when they go to get Id, cops get notified and arrest them when they leave.
3)You need usually two proofs of address to get Id. Many homeless don’t have an address.
I have an adult son who is slightly mentally impaired, never had a drivers license but had a state Id, which he was always losing or someone would steal it.
He moved down south reccently. His ex gf took his Id before he left Ohio and moved. He tried to get an Id in new state, I sent him his birth certificate and he had proof of address. Georgia, where he moved said heI had to get a letter from Ohio with driving record printout showing he had no warrant holds. That cost 5.00. I did. Georgia wouldn’t accept it because it didn’t have his state Id number on it so they couldn’t issue him a state Id.
So, I called Ohio, they said, well we don’t put state Id numbers on the driving printout.
Georgia says he can’t get a state Id until they get his Old state Id number from Ohio.
It’s been a nightmare. He can’t get an Id because he need his old Id number from Ohio before Georgia will issue him a state Id in their state. But Ohio doesn’t put state Id numbers on the driving record verification printout which is required by Georgia.
