Trump starts considering Cabinet
The Hill ^ | 23 Jul 2016 | Alexander Bolton

CLEVELAND — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is already focused on picking people for his future Cabinet.

A day before accepting his party’s nomination and completing an astonishing political rise that has taken him to the heights of the Republican Party’s power, Trump met with his inner circle at the Cleveland Westin to discuss his possible transition.

Eric Trump told The Hill that his father is determined to put together a Cabinet that can help him turn around the country. He suggested his father would look to the private sector to find effective leadership for government.

“You have to have the best people, and you have to put those people in charge, and those people have to be the best at what they do, and that’s going to be my father’s message,” Trump said.

“If we’re going to have the biggest deals in the world, which are trade deals, why not have the best guys negotiate this? Why not have the Carl Icahns or the top guys of Wall Street?” he added. “It’s why they’re worth millions and billions of dollars. It’s because they’re tough and they’re shrewd.”

Donald Trump recently floated former Goldman Sachs executive Steve Mnuchin as a possible choice to head the Treasury Department, a development first reported by Fortune. Mnuchin serves as the national finance chairman of his campaign.

Icahn, one of the nation’s savviest investors, said last year he was not interested in heading Treasury.

“You’ll probably see a lot of people who are outside traditional Washington, D.C.,” Eric Trump added. “The people who are in there right now haven’t exactly done this country wonders.”

International Commerce is one of the three functions of the government, as spelled out in the Constitution.

I’d like to see the inter-state commerce argument for so many of the Federal regulations, done away with.

The TSA is solely responsible for screening passengers and checked and carry-on baggage at 450 U.S. airports.

From the beginning this responsibility should have been turned over to the US Coast Guard. The Coast Guard is currently maritime, it’s military and it’s a multi-mission service. It already operates under the Department of Homeland Security. Its maritime law enforcement mission can be expanded to aviation. Its procedure & process oriented as well as military, therefore, lapses of judgment, decorum or ability by a Coast Guard screener can be reviewed & dealt with immediately. No union related encumbrances.

Wouldn’t sending him back across the border constitute the equivalent of a formal declaration of war...? ;)

Good memory. The War Department morphed into the Defense Dept under Truman... who otherwise was known for speaking straight. I’d like to see it changed back as well.

James Forrestal was the first Secretary of Defense and died from a 13 story fall while being hospitalized for depression. His death was the focus of conspiracy theories like JFK’s would be 14 yrs later.

Two words: “early out.”

Followed by three more words: “absolute hiring freeze.”

Change the Department of Defense back to the War Department.
Make John McCain the next Secretary of War.
Think about it. It’s genius.

That's not genius. That's madness. You want a Secretary of War to know WHEN and WHERE it is appropriate to conduct war, McInsane is another General Jack D. Ripper, minus a couple of stars.

Uh uh, no thanks.

I disagree.

The axe can be used to deport all illegal aliens. The axe can be use to end financial aid to foreign countries, except food. Never cash only food. Did you know that past Presidents get an expense account? Wonder about all the other bloat the elite class set up for itself. Scalpel.

The axe can be used on some Departments & agencies, some others will need to be grandfathered out as people move from dependence to self reliance.

Let 'em try it. We'll selectively annex Canada and leave the liberal-leftist garbage behind for Trudeau and Company to 'enjoy'.

Plenty of conservative Canadians we could bring back to the U.S. to construct the core of a Canadian Republic Government in Exile, kind of like we did with the Contras in Nicaragua.

” I was just wondering. What government program has never went corrupt? “

I doubt that a single one has, ever. Human nature argues otherwise.

Reinstatement following vetting and review of any military officer to his former rank, who was forced or resigned his or her commission during the Obama administration.

Agree completely with your list. Here’s a problem I see with it though - after 25 years in the private sector small defense business arena, I can assure you that most, probably as many as 60% of the mid-level DoD program managers are EEO placements. That may be a brief too far even for Newt.
