France will send artillery to Iraq and its Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier to assist the US-led coalition’s efforts in Syria and Iraq in the coming months, but will not deploy its troops in these countries, French President Francois Hollande said Friday.

France will also send artillery to Iraq in August to help the Iraqi army fight Daesh terrorists, the President added.

"The Defense Council and I made a decision this morning to provide Iraqi forces with artillery as a part of anti-Daesh efforts. The artillery will be delivered in August," Hollande said. The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle will be sent to the region in September, the President added.

Thank you for seeing the truth and taking the time to read my post.
I find it amazing how France is continually maligned yet so many so called friends always get a free ride. We are a country of 320 million people while France has 60 million. You can put France inside Texas and have a lot of Texas left over. Nevertheless France has always been our stalwart ally in war with only one exception. Thy sat our Iraq but were the strongest factor assisting us in the First Gulf War. I think People should know the facts before criticizing, but then I suppose that is expecting too much in such a crazy world.

Yep, short of using a nuke, France doesn’t have the military capacity to capture and mobilize the attention of their population.
The average EU inmate of France is more likely concerned with their own personal day-to-day survival.

Well I’ll be damned.
I was just talking to a friend today and neither of us could remember what happened to the USS Langley.
The French got her.

“FRANCE is our OLDEST and most loyal Ally”
They were also our nation’s first opponent in war- such is diplomacy LOL! (And we were ‘in the wrong’.)

The facts matter a lot and also in addition to credit where due a little gratitude wouldn't be out of line either.

It's better to be grateful with what has been provided than to hector and ridicule the contribution; seems pretty low-rent to me.

“If all it is going to do is commit the resources from one aircraft carrier then it’s fight is limited.”

They only have one aircraft carrier, but it is the biggest non-US carrier in NATO. They also have their SF guys on the ground in Syria to guide in the air strikes. They are punching hard, relative their capability - the most of any European Country. They are going to get take home some ISIS scalps.

They also took the lead a couple of years back in driving alQueda out of control of Northern Mali, including their ground troops and Legionnaires.

I used to talk trash about the French military, over their defeats in WWII, but I have developed more respect for them in recent years, and remember them fondly from the Gulf War as well.

I think that the return of their carrier after reloading, will be a possible indicator of an opcoming assault on the ISIS capitol of Raqqa (Sept? Oct?).

Not to get too far into the weeds, but the air force of German-controlled Vichy France killed Allied servicemen during WW II.

France hasn't always been America's ally in all circumstances, but any help they can offer in their present circumstances should be gratefully accepted.

I agree with your point. The French have been very wrongly maligned by small minded idiots who have little historical understanding of the strong role the French have played in American and world history. The canard that the French are “surrender monkeys” is ridiculous on its face. After all, what wars has this benighted country won since the end of WW2? Exactly ZERO, just like France! And at least the French have been with us on the field of battle since WW2, unlike our “allies” Germany or Japan. Enough with the BS about cowardly France, I say!

Right. Stupid frogs.

America should send the USS Gerald Ford in it’s place. That ship
works perfectly.

No I certainly wouldn’t talk trash because they did commit thousands of ground troops in Afghanistan. Until they started getting some casualties and eventually the thousand dollar plus haircut socialist took them out completely.

I think it is fair to question France’s commitment when the going gets tough and the body bags start adding up. But insofar as they aren’t prepared to put actual ground forces in the way their commitment is what it is. At least it’s better doing something than having their population slaughtered and finding new ways not to offend their Muslim population or ISIS for that matter.

tates as an independent country, first to assist us to gain our freedom by sending troops and ships to our aid (there were more Frenchmen at Yorktown than Americans. Since the United States of America was founded, France has never fought against us. I am grateful for their assistance and loyalty and they haven’t forgotten our assistance either.

I think that we are on the same sheet of music regarding France.

I was eating freedom fries instead of french fries for quite some time after they balked at the Iraq War, and remember that the US was left holding the bag when they pulled out of Vietnam. My dad liked to repeat Patton’s line “I’d rather have a German Division in front of me than a French division behind me.”

So it is comme ci comme ça with the French - not always reliable/committed. But they have been bloodied by ISIS, and it seems to me that they are serious about laying a serious ass-kicking on them this time around.

Disagree or look it up, as you please. It was an ignoble day that we refused to repay the loans they had given us.
After handling the French we sent our Navy against the Barbary Pirates.

If you look into the facts, you will see France did use their naval and air force assets against Americans and our allies during WW II, when France was subjugated by the Nazis and Vichy France was ordered to defend French North Africa against Anglo/American Operation Torch in late 1942.
History is complicated, especially such a short window as early WW II.
For the most part, non-muslim French people agree America should be allowed to live.

More French were killed in Indochina during the 1950s then Americans that were killed in the 1960s. And the French were fighting a simultaneous war in Algeria during the late 50s and early 60s against the musloids while we were propping up illegitimate musloid regimes all over the Middle East. The French were right beside us in Beirut in 1983 and were the second largest force in the field during Gulf War 1. They didn’t participate in Gulf War 2 initially because they knew, like Trump did, that Dubya and his neocons didn’t know what the hell they were doing. It’s time the American people woke up and realized that this country has been very poorly led for decades by our corrupt and incompetent politicians of both parties.
