It probably is BS. However, the Amish might have somebody else do it. While they oppose driving a car, for example, there is no prohibition against riding in a car if a non-Amish drives it. At least this is true for some of them.

Riding in modern transportation is sometimes allowed in cases of necessity. I don’t think that extends to politics though.
