Trump is very perceptive and correct here. The cost of living varies so much from State to State that the Fed should not be setting one-size-fits-all minimum wages. If you are going to have a minimum wage it should be set by the state.
I agree. The Feds have no place in this issue. It should be up to the states to set wherever they want or even eliminate minimum wage,
Congress should not be setting ANY minimum wage. It has zero Constitutional authority to do such a thing.
Then why is he saying the federal minimum wage should be $10? That takes the matter out of the hands of the states and sets a floor that they have to meet. They could go higher, but not lower.
That’s the way to do it. Leave it to the states.
Absolutely.
$15 an hour in New York City is peanuts. It’s a 30,000 a year income in a full time job of 40 hours a week, 2000 a year.
In the rural Midwest it is almost a marginally livable income. It is liveable for a frugal person.
Another issue is whether we’re talking part-time job or full-time job. A 10 hour a week job might get someone started, but it won’t keep them going.
In the long run, the issue is monthly income.
