CLEVELAND (AP) -- As he turns his attention to the general election, Donald Trump is signaling that he is ready to tone down his fiery rhetoric on illegal immigration — at least behind closed doors.

At the same time, Republican officials appear eager to push him in a more moderate direction, telling Hispanics that he has abandoned his divisive primary pledge to deport the estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally — even if Trump hasn't said so publicly himself.

He better not flip-flop on this.

Build that damn wall, E-Verify, no welfare for illegals, withhold all Federal funding from Sanctuary Cities/States, end bi-lingual education, eliminate anchor babies provision, heavy financial penalties for all businesses that employs illegals.

Deport them all!

Republican officials appear eager to push him in a more moderate direction . . . even if Trump hasn't said so publicly himself.

This weekend I noticed the hit pieces on Trump have increased more than usual. A sign from the media that all is not well with the Hillary campaign and they know Trump is ahead in the presidential race.

If Trump deports all but 20,000 of the criminals who entered our country illegally, I’ll consider that progress. Trump’s successor can finish the job. If Trump only deports a few hundred thousand, but he make them pay the government-rate costs of deportation, and the others leave on their own to avoid that expense, I’ll be okay with that too.

It has been over a year since Donald Trump announced this policy, and he hasn’t deported anyone! Oh! Wait! He is not President yet. ;-)

Why don’t we give him a chance to be elected and to take office before we talk about changes in policy?

Not really, he’s not mentioned deporting them for a few months now. Larry Kudlow, who is advising him on economic issues has talked about how his team has been trying to talk him into full amnesty. Last I heard from Larry it wasn’t clear where Trump would definitely end up on the issue—but Larry was optimistic that he’d roll over for amnesty.

Are you kidding? I lie all the time on twitter to Bernie supporters :)

I tell them if they read “The Art of The Deal” they’d know Trump is asking for something he can’t get so he can get what he wants, which is deportation of illegal killers, DWIs etc

It works sometimes and that’s another vote in our pocket.

And it'll only get worse, FRiend.

But Trump and his people know that, and so far I've every confidence that they'll handle adroitly.

Never more true than now !

Haven’t we seen this attempt to derail supporters for a long time? The very idea makes the commie media and the never-Trump “Republicans” salivate.

Larry Kudlow supports cheap labor. If Trump supports amnesty, there will be no point in voting for him.

“Republican officials ... telling Hispanics that he has abandoned his divisive primary pledge to deport the estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally”

This is precisely the stance that got Trump off to a strong start and is the reason many are supporting him. If he goes back on his word on this, it won’t cause anyone to switch to Shillary but may result in some of his backers staying home.

This is AP trying to worry Trump’s base and get them to stay home in November. We are smarter than that, you Hellery lickers.

Build the wall, enforce existing immigration laws, including E-verify, and penalize employers of illegals, eliminate Sanctuary cities, etc., and there would probably be millions who self-deport, because they wouldn’t have jobs, and public welfare would not be a draw.
