Suddenly, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, isnt acting like a shoo-in for re-election.
After his prime-time non-endorsement of GOP nominee Donald Trump at the Cleveland convention caused a firestorm, Cruz became the target of a lot of speculation. Already Democrats such as former State Sen. Wendy Davis, formerly of Fort Worth, and U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro of San Antonio are talking about throwing their hats in the ring for U.S. Senate in 2018.
As soon as Castro said in a joint CBS News interview with his brother, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, that he was going to take a look at it, Cruz launched a fundraising appeal.
Despite any record of achievement and a liberal ideology out of touch with the majority of Texans, the Castro brothers have the full support of the mainstream media and Washington establishment willing to do everything in their power to turn Texas blue, said Cruz. Help me fight back!

This Texans hopes Cruz is primaried, Dan Patrick are you listening? But I will not vote D in the general, 6 years is a long time to sacrifice just to get rid of the lying worthless dirt bag Ted Cruz.
Sadly Patrick always seems one step behind on these things. He endorsed Dewhurst in the Primary and then wouldn’t let go of Cruz when it was over.
I can’t imagine Patrick running against Cruz, but like you, he’d be great in the Senate. Perhaps Rick Perry (who I was hoping would simply go away) is who we get stuck with.
My real hope is that Greg Abbott will go after Cruz, my great fear is that G.P.Bush will go after Cruz. The only non D that might get me to vote Cruz is G.P.Bush.
I'm not a fan of Gov Perry, but I'd vote Perry over Cruz in a NY second. I used to like Cruz, now I despise him.
“As you can imagine, we were shocked that he was so tone deaf.”
When you are Inevitable, like Cruz assumes he is, you can do things like that.
“But he has a sterling voting record in the Senate”
Are you referring to his support of the Obama agenda? His promotion of and his vote in support of TPA and his vote for the Iran deal? Or his call for a five hundred percent increase in H1B visas? That sterling voting record?
“he (Cruz) asked us to sign a pledge”
A PLEDGE? Seriously? From Cruz? You should sign it and make a note that says, “This pledge means as much as the pledge you signed”.
He sent you a pledge???
This confirms my opinion he has serious Asperger’s.
“when the time came to help show unity behind the nominee, far too many of them chose their ‘native son.’”
I don’t know; maybe. I did watch his meeting with the TX delegation the next morning, and I saw a bunch of pissed-off Texans — angry at him. He might be a senator from Texas, but now they know he’s a Canadian, and they know they’ve been bamboozled by a con man. I don’t think that would go over well with any American, especially Texans who take a lot of pride in their state.
I think/hope they’ll kick him to the curb. We’ve always been so impressed with Texas and almost relocated there. If they re-elect this yahoo, I’ll be surprised and disappointed.
Missing sarcasm tag.
I see Texans are in a bind about this. Boy, I can relate.
“I think I would rather have Perry than Cruz, Perry WILL work with Trump!! Perry has YUGE name in Texas I think he could beat him!!!”
All true. And add the facts that Perry never lied about being an AMERICAN or embarrassed TX on a national level.
In the R primary, suppose George Bush the lesser runs against Ted Cruz. Who would the 3rd candidate be for those who can’t stand either one of them?
Well, certainly hope so. Maybe by then folks will wake up and go back to church and seek leaders who have values.
Just wondering after TPA and Coker votes, do you trust Cruz to support not sabotage Trump in the senate?
LOCK HIM UP!
I’m a NY Yankee, but I’d donate to a credible primary challenger against Cruz. This guy has to go.
Yes, there are more honorable people than Ted. I cannot think of a current Republican who is as knowledgeable of and committed to the Constitution as Ted Cruz. No candidate is perfect and Ted has certainly stumbled. I am reminded of what Lincoln said concerning US Grant when people clamored to have him dismissed because of his drinking: “I can’t dismiss him, he fights.” Well, Ted Cruz is a fighter.
Two years is a long time in politics. But there is no doubt that Cruz has made is re-election run more difficult.
Agree about Dewhurst, sock.
I just received an invite to a ‘Conservative Victory’ reception, here in TX.
Guess who the ‘headliner’ is??
Yep....you guessed it.....Jorge P Boooosh.
(Also includes AG Ken Paxton, CompTROLLer Glenn Hegar)
Patoooie. Not just NO, but he## NO!!! That was my exact reply to the invite.
It would NOT surprise me, one bit, if little Jorge Booooosh doesn’t see cRuz’s very public meltdown/trainwreck as a golden opportunity to jump right in to that Senate race.
Wake up, TX!!! Stay out da Bushes!!!
Perry NEEDS to jump in Perry is about the ONLY person that could beat him NO MORE BOOOOOSHES!!!!
