To the extent that we have background checks, those should not include identifying information on the weapon, just on the potential buyer. If you’re okay to buy a rifle, then you’re okay to buy a rifle, without specifying that it is a 30-06 made by Remington, with serial number whatever.
I hope Congress will pass a law mandating destruction of those records and that Trump will sign it. The whole point is that FedGov should have no idea where to start in disarming Americans, to make it less likely that we will follow that path to civil war.
It already is contrary to the law.
