Paul Ryan: My support for Donald Trump is not a "blank check"

Speaker Paul Ryan suggested Thursday that his endorsement of Donald Trump for president is not written in stone.

In a radio interview with WTAQ's "The Jerry Bader Show," the Wisconsin Republican was asked if there would ever be a bridge too far when it comes to the GOP presidential nominee.

"None of these things are ever blank checks," said Ryan, who then added that Trump won the Republican nomination "fair and square" from the voters and delegates.

At the beginning of the interview, Bader asked Ryan how he can continue to walk such a fine line from now until the election of still backing Trump, while constantly criticizing his remarks.

"We are a party where the grassroots Republican primary voter selects our nominee. That's as it should be. That is what it is. I think something should be said about respecting those voters," Ryan said. "He won it fair and square."

Ryan brushed off Trump's comment from earlier this week in which Trump said he's "not quite there yet" as far as endorsing Ryan for reelection. Ryan said he's only interested in endorsements from employers in his congressional district. Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign chairman, told "CBS This Morning" on Thursday that Trump plans to support Ryan.

Ryan will win his primary and Trump will support him against his Democrat opponent. He has to do it or it will look like Trump is supporting the Democrat.

Hillary?! How ‘bout 400 MILLION to Iran instead? The ‘mean’ is SoH. He should be focusing on ZERO: the job he was *elected on a promise* to do, nOT the *next* presidential candidate and what they think/speak/MIGHT do in the future

Yes, he’s rolled-over on EVERY SINGLE THING since being handed the gavel, why should I expect anything better from the ‘leadership’\establishment (at least McTurle has gone back into his shell).

Ryan's refusal to support "the People's" (voters') choice proves him to be deficient in his understanding of the American Republic, as it was "constituted" for the purposes outlined in the Preamble.

Democrats portrayed him in 2012 as one who pushed the elderly over a cliff.

Now, in 2016, by his allowing Hillary Clinton months to advance her self-serving "progressive," redistributionist, furtherance of Obama's extra-Constitutional agenda, and knowing of her dishonesty and use of office for accumulation of personal wealth and national debt accumulation, he would fit perfectly into a TV commercial depicting him as pushing future generations into an ocean of debt and drowning them in poverty.

Ryan’s judgement is as poor as Ted’s. Both are jerks.

Or, Ryan will win his primary and his long time supporters will remember that Trump tried to unseat him, and they will leave the top of their ballot blank.

Wisconsin was already going to be tough to win. Trump has made it even more difficult. I don’t understand why.

I pray Ryan doesn’t survive his upcoming election.

However, the Republican party was born in Wisconsin - Wisconsin is the epicenter for government largess & crony capitalism - in one form or the other.

People in Wisconsin are not used to surviving in a true, genuine market economy.

Government cheese and all.

Trump’s phrasing of his uncertainty about Ryan — “I’m just not quite there yet” — echoes what Ryan told CNN’s Jake Tapper in a May interview about endorsing Trump: “I’m just not ready to do that at this point. I’m not there right now.”

Trump turns it right around....

Paul Ryan - just go to hell and never come back. You have outworn your welcome everywhere you go. Perhaps your fellow NeverTrumpers will provide you with a safe room that perhaps you can share with about 100 illegals and refugees.

Mr. Ryan's endorsement of Donald Trump was based on the hope that "he"..i.e., the Washington insiders, could control Mr. Trump. That did not work.....I firmly believe that is a fact.

If those insiders don't, real fast, clean up their spoiled brat act, will see the Congress and the Senate lose to the liberals because Republicans all across this nation will not support incumbents that don't support their parties choice for POTUS...!

Are you listening McCain.....this is not about you, it is about Freedom, Security, the Constitution and America!
