As a classical liberal myself, I find radical libertarianism a troubling ideology- do all the drugs you want, do whatever you want to be happy, but where is the self control aspect? I have offered the following reply to several libertarian friends- do mind bending drugs all you want, but make it lawful for me to stick a 22 bullet in your brain after you harm me or mine on the highway or at work or whatever- the civil compact requires equal footing for behavior- “your right to throw a punch ends at my nose”.
The left, the modern liberal (leftist) and the radical libertarian, both often confuse individual liberty for absolvement of responsibility with in the civil compact-both are anathema to real liberty.
AFA illegal drugs- it is a supply and demand equation- reduce the demand 9 social responsibility/moral living or reduce the supply ( WOD). If the negative behavior modification threat of prison, felony record or unemployment do not thwart the demand, then the supply is left to be dealt with.
Jesus Christ is the only real solution. Only true freedom is in Him and his free gift of salvation and zoe life- abundant and free! Alas, even Christ told us we will always have our poor ( in spirit) as well in worldly wealth.
