Sanger was no more considerate of her marital vows than she was of her parental responsibilities. As author Daniel Flynn writes: “She was a serial adulterer. Among the scores who shared her bed were some of the most famous men of her time, including novelist H. G. Wells and sex researcher Havelock Ellis. As she cheated on her husband of the moment with not-so-secret lovers, she cheated on these paramours with still other beaus. These encounters, biographer Ellen Chesler suggests, were limited neither to members of the opposite sex nor to two participants.”[2] Sanger eventually separated from her husband in 1914.
