No seasoned watchers of the Olympics know the order of countries is in the alphabetical order of the host nations language. So for Brazil it’s how the countries are called in Portugese. This came to humorous light years ago at the Montreal Games when The US was listed as Etats Unis in French for language of Quebec. ABC who was covering those games (Live btw) assumed the US would march in at U. They were about to go to commercials and almost blew it but recovered in the nick of time.

Brazil is using its native language which is Portuguese. They are using that alphabet for the parade of nations. According the the list the United States is known as Estados Unidos da América. That’s why we’re coming in earlier than usual.

That parade of the multi-color pod people is awful.

They are not dancing in sync with the music, which isn’t much either.

Here comes the torch. Gustavo acts like he has been whiffing the fumes.

It appears we will have Rio’s trademark Carnivale “party” after all once the Parade of Nations ends...

I’ve never seen so many female athletes wearing a hijab in the parade before.

Ibtihaj Muhammad, she’s going to be the first American to compete while wearing a hijab.

Techically, they are winter games because we’re in late winter in Rio De Janeiro and spring doesn’t begin until September.

Keep in mind the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere.
