Oh no you didn’t, Brazil! We’re ‘First In Flight’!

“First In Flight.”

We worked out our differences with Ohio on the phrase long ago. Connecticut tried and failed to claim it. Now it’s Brazil

During the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio on Friday, a portion of the program featured the exploits of Alberto Santos-Dumont, who piloted a heavier-than-air machine in 1906.

Brazilians say that his achievement in the 14 BIS was the first to take off on its own without the aid of wind, and therefore should be credited as the first airplane flight.

But we Outer Bankers know that’s just a bunch of hot air.

Due to NBC’s contract with the Olympics, we are not allowed to share the actual video from the ceremony. The hosts kind of laughed it off for the most part.

US wins its first gold. Women's air rifle.

Got to agree with you the opening ceremonies was a total waste of time.

...and it now happens every two years. Sheer boredom. Who cares anymore?

Life is too short to waste hours of it watching these pathetic losers try to host the Olympics instead of running a decent country.

He flew his plane in 1906 - 3 years after the wright brothers, it’s a crock of crap. This guy was the first to fly a powered plane in EUROPE.

My SiL , an Ohio resident, is always banging on me about the NC auto tags, ‘First in Flight’.

My retort is Ohio, ‘First in Bicycles’

The opening ceremony was the most boring one I have ever watched.

I can forgive them for doing it on the cheap, but I can not forgive them for using the opportunity to entertain a world wide audience for propaganda (global warming).

Instead of showcasing Brazilian culture they borrowed the worse from the US, rap, hip hop and twerking.

At one point it look like a soap box derby, then victorian secret with a model walking 10 miles (as it seemed to home viewers) across the stadium, while a lousy singer sang Girl from Impanema.

It was so confusing they had to keep bringing in the creative director to explain what we were seeing and I still did not understand.

The Olympics are dying if they are not already dead.

Actually France was first. Well Germany was first if you can’t self powered mini-planes. There’s a lot of “yea but” on that count.

That plane actually did not truly fly. It left the ground but almost immediately came back down then went up and then came down. It did not fly any distance at all.

Hell yeah! Ginny is only 19 and just won the NCAA rifle championships this year. NCAA is one competition, men’s and women’s together. The international federation split men’s and women’s after Margaret Murdock took a silver (and almost the gold) in 1976.
