The coffee forces me to stop every 150 miles or so too. I can live without the caffeine, but I need something to do when I’m driving.

——I need something to do——My son gave a gizmo that plugs into the lighter socket and the audio jack on my I phone. It transmits the audio to the FM radio.

on the I phone are audio books. The audio books really relieve the driving boredom

The books are of course available on CD, even free from the library as well

Prosecutor: “You honor we are asking for life without parole. Not only did the defendant have a hot cup of coffee in his possession, there were over a dozen empty cups in the floorboard of the car. We have testimony from a Dunkin’ Donuts employee that this person has purchased coffee every morning on his way to work for years.”

Got one. Listened to some talk radio podcasts, caught the end of the NASCAR race, various radio stations.

On this trip home, I was leading a small convoy of three of my kids in two other cars. We’re helping my daughter move.

I kept trying to get my girls to drive a little more assertively in traffic by suggesting lane changes on the two-way radio. She kept hanging back too far and I finally reminded her that tailgating only counts if the bumpers are touching.

Or just make BMW cup holder designs mandatory.

Ha ha! One reason (apart from $), that I am still driving my 2003 BMW. The cup holders in the new models are the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

Drinking coffee without permission... crime. Because every other crime has been solved, and they are running out of things to worry about?

No, because when you are a Democrat, you never run out of things to worry about. Its your gift and your burden.

“What about the automakers with their multifunction displays?”

No kidding. I hate driving the wife-unit’s Prius. There are THREE locations to control the audio system...lower dash buttons, upper screen and the steering wheel...none of which perform ALL functions. Your hand and eyes have to bounce from one to another to accomplish your goal of turning on and adjusting the various elements of the system. Get some greasy smudges on the screen, or the sun shines on it, and it’s FUBARed.

I won’t even discuss the HVAC system.

That’s interesting. The person we saw texting and driving yesterday had NJ license plates. In Ohio. Every time we spot an erratic driver texting, it’s licensed in an east coast state like NJ and NY.

"Drinking coffee without permission... crime."

LOL

Soon it'll be to buy coffee in NJ, you'll have to show an ID to prove that you're over 18.

Does the same rule apply to bottled water? Isn't unscrewing the cap a hazard?

A friend bought a new car. On the door was a place to place a bottle. It even was labelled "bottle". I laughed and asked him when is he going to place a bottle of wine there. BTW, there was no ashtray in the car. Dumb. Where's he going to put the change? There were so many gizmos in that car, which I found would be a distraction while driving.

Whatever happened to those "push-in" cigarette lighters? I used to play with them when I was a boy riding in my father's car. I'd push it in and then wait for the end to get all red with fire. I liked the burnt smoke smell when you pulled it out. You could light a piece of paper on fire with it. I used to like to light a piece of paper on fire and then blow it out before it got too big. My father did not like that. Now there is just a hole where the cigarette lighter used to be and people shove their cell phone chargers in there.

I used to drive I 95 Miami to Laud as a tech in a van.

I used to ride a bus back and forth to work, as the commute was grating on my nerves. For a hundred-and-fifty bucks a month, free parking, and an allowable excuse for traffic (my company allowed tardiness when riding public transport, but not in POVs) jams that caused delays in arrival, my sanity was quite relieved.

I looked out the window one day, and noted a woman driving with her knee, one hand holding the cell phone while the other was applying eye-liner.

We were doing about 50 MPH at that point.

You mean my handicapped hang card is not enough? Well that sucks. Sarc/

When are they going to take out the AC/Heat, radio etc? All those things make you take your eyes off the road.

Like Mr. Magoo we’d all need windshields that had our glasses script in them.

You can still get it. It's called the "Smoker's Package" and it'll cost ya anywhere from $35 to $70, depending on the make and model. What you get it the little lighter, and an ashtray designed to fit into one of your cup-holders. Here's one for a BMW: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/smoker-package/51952186233/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Srch.US.ProductAds(BSC)&utm_term=1100910268440&utm_content=All%20Products

Only $65.07 with free shipping.

I'll sell ya a bic and an aluminum can cut in half for only $19.95...

"Whatever happened to those "push-in" cigarette lighters?"

That is a great item for preppers to start a fire :). I loved pushing them in and waiting...by the time it popped out, you had time to figure out if you wanted that cigarette or not. Now it's just a bic lighter and an ashtray in one of the cup holders. Instant gratification.
