Our View: Turning guns into garden tools(Barf bucket pleez!)

Much divides the country when it comes to the issue of gun violence. That’s why it is so important to find common ground so that, together, all Americans can work to reduce the damage that guns cause in our society.

A new initiative starting this week in New Mexico has the potential to bring people together toward a common goal — making people safer without fighting over whether assault weapons should be banned or the meaning of the Second Amendment.

Called Guns to Gardens, the movement organized by New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence simply helps people dispose of unwanted weapons. Instead of leaving a gun lying around the house, a person can take it to Guns to Gardens, which is raising money to buy back the weapons. Those unwanted guns will be melted and turned into spades and shovels to be used in community gardens. There will be public arts projects. It’s a multi-year, statewide effort, an attempt to secure weapons so that they can no longer be used to harm.

This is especially important in safeguarding children. In New Mexico, children die by firearms at a rate almost 60 percent higher than the national average. A gun that is no longer functional can’t be used to commit suicide or to play a game of Russian roulette or to shoot a friend accidentally.

What is an “Unwanted” gun??

In liberalspeak, it's a gun.

To a leftist controller, it's an NLP test to ferret out crypto conservatives by watching their reaction to the phrase.

Hands up, comrade.

Maybe we could start a non-profit for people that would like to adopt all those unwanted guns.

Yo-Yo’s AR-15 Rescue?

Santa Fe is a nice town, but the air is kind of thin up there, bless their hearts.

I see the problem this way....
many of the anti-firearms folks
are SO INCREDIBLY crazy, naive, stupid, dumb, anti-American, and racist (trying to jack up firearms prices and make them less available....primiarly to disarm poor people including so many minorities so they can’t defend themselves)

THAT
we “regular Americans” laugh so hard... that we don’t really do much ACTION to STOP the attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights

please, if you haven’t already done so.... join GOA, NRA, and donate to the anti-Bloomberg campaigns to further restrict your access to firearms (such as in NV and...?)

In New Mexico, children die by firearms at a rate almost 60 percent higher than the national average.

Which begs the question - what's wrong with the citizens of New Mexico? Who's doing these killings? Why are New Mexicans killing their children more frequently than everyone else?

Journalists are taught everything except critical thinking skills, aren't they?

And this will work as well as every other gun buy back program has.

Yeah, at 7,000+ feet in altitude, the attitude may suffer. I did notice on the official Santa Fe website there’s a phone number listed at the bottom of the page so you can “Report Weapons /Violence Threats”. Good to know if you’re a tourista there.

Those who beat their swords into plowshares will soon find the need to beat their plowshares into swords.

There is no common ground. The disarmists want criminals and tyrants to murder, rape or rob me. I want to prevent that sort of thing.

There is a build thread out there on how to turn a shovel into an AK lower.

I’m hoping someone posts a picture of that.

We could only wish for that, we should be so lucky.

If they left, this would be a pretty swell place.

The ultimate irony would be if these kumbayasses beat swords into plowshares and then the plowshare were used to kill someone. It would be even tastier if the victim was someone who had just turned over all his guns.
