How about a complete embargo on ALL imports. What would happen then?

Tariffs are one of the few CONSTITUTIONAL tools available to "level the playing field" with countries who don't operate fairly.

They are neither something to be dogmatically against, or dogmatically for. They certainly have utility in some cases, and there's no reason we should completely lift our tariffs while other countries impose tariffs on OUR goods.

It's a two way street, and if the THREAT of tariffs helps keep some manufacturing jobs from fleeing the United States for countries with grossly inferior labor standards, then so be it.

The United States shouldn't be "free trading" with countries that essentially employ slave labor.
