From the comments I saw, that was the CONTEXT in which Trump spoke.
Trump may well be the first big-name national politician to publicly recognize that fact. (I've heard it from WV State legislators.) That alone should justify at least some minimal grudging support from conservatives and constitutionalists.
Our government has spent billions of dollars on public education to make sure that American history goes down the memory hole.
