The crusading scolding tone of the article reveals a fatal flaw in the default liberal world view, that this story presents a "police shooting" spotlighting something inherently controversial, that pathos on the perp's family's part is the same as "cased closed."

Alledgedly stolen vehicle," "appears to show failure of protocol..," etc.

Chicago seems to be well seasoned for choking on flies and swallowing camels, reported on "he deadliest day" in the city's history, stacking high the dead of many thousands where police are usually the last show.

That jag was a weapon, a deadly weapon. Now, I ain't saying the perp deserved what happened...but stopping a driver who is sailing around evading apprehension, in a stolen car, clearly showing a reckless willingness to kill, and stopping him in his tracks, ASAP, before some truly innocent child gets run over seems prudent to me.

Yet, alas, this is Rahm's city, and that of the chumps who voted for him, so it will take a lot of bother and tax money to "Prove Innocence" on the part of the officers.
