Turkey will resume airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Syria, and has asked Russia to carry out joint operations against its common enemy. Ankara halted strikes after the downing of a Russian plane by Turkish forces last year.
In an interview with Turkey's NTV television on Wednesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusolgu said that Ankara will again, in an active manner, with its planes take part in operations against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) targets.
Cavusolgu also said that Ankara has called on Moscow to carry out joint operations against the common enemy of IS.
"Let's fight against the terrorist group together, so that we can clear it out as soon as possible," Cavusolgu said, adding that otherwise IS will continue to expand and spread into other countries.

The Turks will use this as an excuse to hit the Kurds, someway, somehow.
Affirmative.
I want the US and Russia to become close allies. I would prefer a US-Russia alliance to a US-Western European alliance.
Turkey was previously aligned with Qatar and Saudi Arabia in opposition to Russia and Iran and support of the Qatar and Saudi supported ISIS forces who want to overthrow Assad.
It seems that Turkey has just switched sides and formed an alliance with Russia Assad and Iran .
Such an alliance would bring them into conflict with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the Obama Administration.
One question. Where did all that crude oil go that ISIS sold and made money on Erdogan? Where was it sold and in what currency was it paid, from what bank?
More to the point was the money, of which a considerable amount ended in Erdogan and son's pockets.
When Russia put a crimp in that cash flow, Erdy jumped too quickly figuring the US would back his play to put Russia out of the air, reinstating Erdy's stolen crude cash flow.
Didn't happen, the US and Turkey were put out of the air.
Erdy did the only thing left to him, switch sides with a false flag coup blamed on the US and mollify the Russians who will accept him as a stooge enforcing Russian interests.
Erdogan is now effectively, a Chechen.
At this point in time, I agree. They're no longer the evil empire of old.
The US and Russia should only cooperate where both nations have common interests, not alliances.
Elsewhere they should be strong competitors.
That way, both nations earn their way and improve themselves.
The same policy should apply to Western and Eastern Europe, common interests, not alliances.
Currently, the US has few common interests with Europe and slightly more with the Russian Federation.
“The comments came just days after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited St. Petersburg for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the first meeting between the two leaders since the plane was downed.
Following the Tuesday meeting, Putin announced that Russia would begin rolling back sanctions and restarting energy projects, including a stalled nuclear plant and the Turkish Stream gas pipeline from southern Russia to the Black Sea.
Officials in Moscow have said that trade with Turkey will be fully restored by the end of the year.”
Clearly a big deal has been struck, which will affect the war in Syria. My guess would be that the Turks agreed to cut support to anti-Assad rebels, in return for free rein to attack the Kurds. Which would leave the USA in a tough position (unless Obama has secretly agreed to throw the Kurds under the Turkish bus - right after the election).
It is possible that the economic sanctions were just biting both sides too hard, so Erdogan just apologized for shooting the Russian plane down, and they only agreed to limit the fighting between to Syria, and just among their surrogates - status quo ante.
Do we really know that it was a “false flag” coup? We haven’t heard anything definitive from our gov that they had nothing to do with the coup.
I’m confused. Seems like only a short time ago, Turkey was propping up ISIS, wanted Assad out, and was shooting down Russian jets.
You might also consider that Erdogan has observed how so many Middle Eastern and North African heads of state and their famalies, wind up dead or deposed after dealing with Obama and the DemoRats "democracy", while those dealing with Russia do not.
Erdogan was too well prepared, too "lucky", and able to take countermeasures too easily for it to be a real coup.
We havent heard anything definitive from our gov that they had nothing to do with the coup.
Two things: Would any statement from US Federal officials or US media be believable regardless of it's contents? And ... Obama was probably played by Erdogan exactly the same way Obama planned to play Erdogan, Erdogan knew it, and was better, much better. How does that fit for truth?
Im confused.
So is Obama and Kerry.
