As I understand it, if an item is labelled “kosher”, Muslims may consume it as if it is halal (at least, in the case of military MREs). But if meat is labelled “halal”, then, it is not automatically kosher?

I always look for the kosher symbol on food when I buy it.
I would think that halal food would be labelled for the simple fact that it would signal to Muslims to buy it, when they might not buy it otherwise. I.e., it would be labelled for the purpose of increasing sales.
