ot long after it became clear that the robust winds that blow down from the Rocky Mountains and across the sea of sagebrush here could produce plenty of profit in a world that wants more renewable energy, some of the more expansive minds in the Wyoming Legislature began entertaining a lofty question:
Who owns all of that wind?
They concluded, quickly and conveniently, that Wyoming did.
Then, with great efficiency for a conservative state not traditionally tilted toward burdening the energy industry, they did something no other state has done, before or since: They taxed it.

Guess they modeled it after CO’s tax on rain since it falls from clouds over the state therefor they own it.
If they own the wind, let them prove it by turning it off.
Considering the source of the story, it is highly unlikely that they would understand Wyoming might have a distaste for wind farms much like libtards have for cigarettes and coal. If you can’t outlaw it you can tax the bastards out of business. How’s that for simple?
That, is a good one.
I would charge the government for easement rights, their wind crossing my property.
I guess if Oregon can own the rain, Wyoming can own the wind.
There are already states that make it illegal to collect rainwater off your roof -

It's only a matter of time before California treats the wind the same as water rights and asserts Wyoming is upstream from California and must let a certain portion of the wind pass thru to them tax-free.
But Wyoming can return the favor by claiming that since the prevailing winds in Wyoming are primarily west or southwest, that California is actually up stream from Wyoming. Touche
Years ago I recall reading a thread here about these modern windmills in the Netherlands. They started out there because they figured these folks are used to the idea and indeed, at first, they were well received. That is until the hydraulics in the transmissions started leaking and slinging 90 weight gear oil for hundreds of yards in every direction. Turns out “clean” non hydrocarbon energy is not as clean and non polluting as advertised. Imagine that.
We are not taking all of the energy from the moving air. The amount of energy extracted from the wind is a miniscule and negligible amount of the total. Keep it in perspective. The atmosphere reaches thousands of feet high and wind blows in layers at many levels. Those puny windmills are not blocking much air movement!
First I’ve heard of this, and I live here. On the side however, ya’ll are welcome to as much of the wind as you like! Bring you some giant trash sacks and come get you some! Take some of these gawd awful ugly wind turbines with you too.
Well, since you breathe out carbon dioxide and the Supreme Court has ruled that the EPA can regulate producers of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas then you can be regulated as a pollution source point just by breathing. So the answer is yes.
Hey, everybody knows California doesn’t blow, it sucks.
That wind you claim Wyoming, was mine 3 years ago. I wants my cut.
Good point.
Are they taxing the wind?
Or are they mitigating the improper redistribution of wealth from WY residents to those leveraging/abusing a tax credit via federal abuse?

But your wind turbines are cutting air flow to my wind turbines, which are downstream. I demand compensation.
Also, your turbines are killing the migratory birds before my turbines even get a chance to.
The surrounding states should fine Wyoming for wind that trespasses into their borders.
WYOMING CAN’T TAX THE AIR. CHRIST OWNS THE AIR.
COLOSSIANS 1:15-17
15
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
16
for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we cant see
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
17
He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
No, a parasite.
