and that the swimmers gave over their wallets as payment for the incident

See, that's where I don't trust the Rio police on this. The police say the swimmers handed over their wallets. Who does this? Even if the security guard supposedly demanded cash for supposed damages, who would hand over their entire wallet? If it's only cash, why not just take out some cash?

This whole thing stinks, and the more that comes out, the more I'm inclined to believe our swimmers, not that they're angels, but that it looks more and more like the Rio police are trying to cover up the third-world turd-hole mess they have there.

Brazil is like a commie country, they will spend more money quashing rumors their country is a crime infested wasteland than money actually being used to fight crime...

This whole case is stupid. Had the Brazilians not made anything of it, the whole thing would have disappeared by now. Pulling the two swimmers off the plane, sweating out a "confession" to get them the finger the other two, and then letting them go is crazy. How is this different from all the other stories of athletes and other Olympics people being robbed?

My guess is that once back in the States they will go back to their original story and slam the Brazilian police.

Also, the timeline in the linked news video says they were only in the restroom for 1 minute. How could they have done much damage in 1 minute and how could the station’s guard know immediately they’d done something? Too many different versions out there to know what really happened.
