Your son is going to need a good suit, shirt and shoes to go with it. Tie alone, without the rest, will not cut it.

Yes, with a business suit, ties make a big difference. The difference between a Kohl's $15 tie and a Trump $30-45 tie is pretty remarkable. They do have $100 ties but I think after the $45-50 price-point, you get diminishing returns.

Always go for 100% silk in a tie.
