I remember that, instead of Coke or Pepsi, they had “HOJO” cola.

The closing will leave only one Howard Johnson restaurant, in Lake George, New York. Let's all show up there!

For waitress Kathe Jewett, it’s the only job she’s held since starting work when the restaurant opened in 1966.

That’s a special woman with some stories to tell.

I didn’t know there were any left.
Their grilled frank on a toasted roll was THE BEST.
HoJos was an important part of my youth.

They haven’t been around these parts in SoCal for about 25 yrs or so. I’ve never missed them for a second.

I’ve been to them both. Sad to see Bangor close.
Neither is special, except that they are part of Americana. I remember my mother liked them in the 1960s when we traveled.

Howard Johnson’s frankfurters with those wonderful toasted New England style buns and fried clams.

Such a treat on Sundays after church or when on the road going to my great aunt’s farm in the summer. Great pancakes and charbroiled hamburgers. End of an era.
To: batterycommander
I don’t know. Haven’t been to Howard Johnson in decades.
To: RightGeek
Not many out west where I grew up but I spent some time in Ohio and the Friday night all you can eat fish and chips wasn’t bad. Good milkshakes, too.

Grilled dogs, buns buttered and
toasted on the grill. Was about the only place to get mint chocolate chip ice cream for many years, and clam strips of course.
