Four vessels from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) "harassed" a U.S. destroyer on Tuesday by carrying out a "high speed intercept" in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. defense official said on Wednesday.

The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said two of the Iranian vessels came within 300 yards of the USS Nitze in an incident that was "unsafe and unprofessional."

"The Iranian high rate of closure...created a dangerous, harassing situation that could have led to further escalation including additional defensive measures by Nitze," the official said.

In January Iranians seized a U.S. patrol boat and held crewman hostage. The Obama administration did nothing.

Recently Obama gave Iran $1.7 billion to ransom hostages.

Expect a call from Obama giving up our ship to Iranians and apologizing profusely. In, addition, he will hand over the commander of the ship to the Iranians.

We are the biggest nuclear power yet they do THIS to us.

Gosh I wonder:

What type of behavior might we see from a NUCLEAR Iran..?

Less of this, the same amount of this, more of this, or MUCH MUCH more of this.

It’s soo mysterious, huh...?

I’ve got an even better idea: Announce that the military is in charge of our foreign policy during the transition. Tell the Generals and Admirals to not listen to their civilian superiors

We should have shot and sank these aggressive attacking vessels. Force is the only thing they understand

I hope the muzzles on all guns were trained onto the Iranian boats. And all personnel in battle gear.

“could have led to further escalation”

300 yards.

That’s close enough for escalation.

This is nothing new and has been going on for years. A friend of mine was assigned to the USS Lasalle, a large communications ship stationed in the Mediterranean. The ship was targeted many times by Iranian speedboats and this was back in the early 80’s. One guess as to who our President was. You guessed it Jimmuh Carter and he did absolutely nothing just like the current resident of the white house. I think this kind of thing will stop when Trump takes over.

"...an incident that was "unsafe and unprofessional..."

Ooooohh man! I don't know. That's pretty serious!

Right up there with "red line" stuff.

If it get to where Learch gives them the "I fart in your general direction", she's all over.

It doesn’t look like the can was even at general quarters based on the guy standing out on deck with the video shoot. A .50 caliber burst or two across their bows might have gotten some respect but - look, I would love to see what our ROE is at the moment over there

If we had a real President:

"In open waters, tactics such as these threaten the lives of our personnel because the proximity leaves us defenseless from any number of munitions and thus any further such activity will require that we negate the threat without warning simply as prudent self-defense measures.

No civilized nation allows such provocations and threats and so we must assume we are being approached by lawless and uncivilized elements and will defend ourselves at the slightest provocation.

Any threat by land, sea or air will be considered just that, a threat to civilization and will be dealt with without negotiation, warning or consideration of the families of those threatening us.

Thank you for your time. Good evening. G-d bless the USA and the freedoms she stands for."

Or some such ... ;-)
