Sadly, in many cases I think the parents are their role models for that kind of behavior. A relative is leaving her teaching job this year because parents won't back up her attempts to enforce classroom discipline and grading. Parental interference is her biggest problem in trying to educate and civilize their spoiled little brats.
Maybe the ‘toys’ are loaners from their mommy.
