Hospitals are finding that VR can overload the brain with sensory input and that can be used to reduce pain.

Oh. Virtual Reality.

I’ve been using that for years. Just lately, I came in from working in 100 degree heat and was absolutely exhausted. I was literally “too tired to sit down”.

So I forced myself to sit down and play Command and Conquer Generals. 15 minutes later I was refreshed and ready to go outside again. The only thing I remember is destroying three enemies in a four player world.

I LOVE VR for taking your mind off stuff.

“That’s all set to change this year. VR is graduating from geeky sideshow to big business and equipment prices are dropping. Oculus Rift Headset retails at $599. HTC’s Vive costs $799. To get them to work, you’ll need a PC that costs about $999 to run the software. “

I got the VR free ($99.00 retail) with my S7. It does not require a computer. Notice that the ones in the photos at the link are not hooked up to a computer.

My wife picked up the Samsung VR and I was quite impressed with its ability to handle depth of field as well as it does. I did not like having more control over the inter-ocular distance as well as different focal lengths for each eye. But it is a growing field that, thus far is off to a promising start. Unfortunately, I see it being yet another brick in the wall between individuals and society.

I’ve been doing some heavy chain saw work in my yard and my back started hurting cause I was also mountain biking yesterday. I take a break and go to Real Reality here on FR. Then I get pissed off and go back to hurting my back some more:)

GoPro is already selling a dual camera system for recording 3-D video.

I have no idea if there is already software available for showing such footage in an Ocular Rift or Google cardboard phone setup.

When I tried it I was on a virtual first date with some hard-looking chick at a Baskin-Robbins in Chicago. They apologized and said that was for those who wanted to commit suicide.

Tried those headsets, amazing. Not sure I’d cough up the $ though.

With a nice size monitor and Fallout 3 or 4, I’m good to go.
