“Both the 49ers and the NFL have issued statements saying players are not required to stand for the national anthem.”

Well why not? They are employers. They can mandate they stand if they wanted to. You know, there is only limited free speech in the workplace. Don’t believe me go to work tomorrow and say the boss sucks and the competition has better products.

When I worked as a vendor at Riverfront stadium in the early '90s, we were *required* to stop what we are doing, place our hats over our hearts and stand during the National Anthem.

Even if we were in the middle of selling a hot dog.

The Anthem ends, then we were allowed to finish the transaction.

If we did NOT follow those rules, it was an automatic termination.
