“On what theory? “
The fact that she clearly said she wasn’t sure why it ended up where it did, didn’t bother to figure it out, and then proceeded to destroy their drone after it hovered for a grand total of a second. Her whole story seemed to read like she was just waiting for any reason to fire her shotgun at it. She comes across as a nut.
Calling it “trespassing” is like calling a kid whose football accidentally went over the fence, and some yahoo next door shooting the football the moment they saw it, trespassing.
Give these guys a minute to correct for anything that might have gone wrong before you just willfully destroy stuff that doesn’t belong to you.
I'm not saying she should have shot it down as she did. If the encroachment was by mistake, I would have given them time to correct. If there was a history of the activity, however, I might have acted as she did.
It would be very tough for them to prevail against her on a damage claim. Even if they did, their damages would be limited to the value of the destroyed drone. (I am a lawyer.)
Poor analogy. One is purposely under control, and the other is not. However, the jamming technique is a good one, although it may be illegal. I believe there may be systems that shoot nets. Anything that gums up a propeller would be useful. Minimize damage to the drone, yet can obtain possession perhaps, and call police or whoever, to resolve.
