We keep a legal fiction going, sometimes, that people who are older than biblical marriageable age are still children. I’m not sure the Lord is truly happy with that kind of delay of responsibility.
I’ve heard stories of children who have been through this kind of hell when young, and then barely into puberty could not resist the insane, lying charms to which they had found themselves addicted. The first selfish minded suitor to say hello, thinking with the wrong head — and trouble.
While our current legal regime may call for “this” and not “that” — sometimes usefully, sometimes in a self defeating manner — it is to wonder what a God’s eye view would reveal. It would be doubtless a load of shame and pain on every hand.
Jerry Springer... if he did anything, he at least splashed scenes of dysfunction right before our eyes. At least before the eyes of our head. The eyes of our heart need to see this and realize that the answer isn’t even what our worldly system gives us, which often is a kind of scape goating. If God had His way, people would come on Jerry Springer and then kneel before God and repent in tears, and then try to make up.
Call me crazy, call me naive, call me contrarian. I don’t talk about “excusing” anybody, but wondering about circumstances where it might yet be possible to forgive, under the power of the Lord where everybody now begins to want to make right and acknowledges that the common enemy is not even the other people so much as the powers of evil in the celestial realms, and their own personal treachery towards God in embracing those powers. Jared can do precious little to help what he damaged, even if he wanted to, in the spot that he has been put in. Those he influenced to the (further) ill can in the meantime only sit and glower at him. Call me a sap for praying for a better development, but I do.

I see it in action in the bible. It is we moderns who have distorted it. We with our modern psychologists think we have reverse engineered mankind to fundamental principles — and the very RESULT is such debauchery.
We can’t go on one foot to God, and on the other foot to Freud.

Two canons of responsibility clash here — that of the suitor (however inappropriate) versus that of the parents. Well and arguably even a third — hers.
The result is going to be a chaos. And our society has embraced chaos. Primal forces have been unchained that no man can control — there is no fire like jealousy. There are going to be people who find themselves in one or more of these seats.
We need to rethink our positions before God, and in order to do that, we can’t be hiding behind “oh, who are YOU to say anything about what God wants.”
But does that then imply that without other demons that other people have known, you do not understand what that is like either?
“Creeps” can often painfully teach us lessons in our own shortcomings. Shortcomings that existed ever since the human flop in the Garden of Eden, somehow with the mysterious concurrence of all souls, not just Adam and Eve. No, we CAN’T grasp or control this good-vs-evil thing on our lonesomes. No matter what the serpent told us.
This doesn’t excuse the creeps, but it should also teach us that to focus on the creeps is counterproductive too. If your house was wickedly burned down by someone who isn’t in a position to rebuild it, but someone else was, you’d be wise to put your concentration on the one who was.
Girls may have married much younger in the olden days but that does not mean they were fully functional adults with responsibility. Wives back then were completely subservient to the man and treated as children, rarely let out of the house without an escort. Other than the sexual aspect, life for a married woman was little different than living at home under her father’s rule or whoever the head of household was.
