“And all the women were married in their teens until around the 1950s (when industrialization came to the USSR). Average marrying age in my family was about 17 before then”

At age 23 or a few months earlier I was told to my face that I was a failure because I did not have a wife and children already. I was driving a new Mustang I bought for myself, I was earning a salary that would buy more than seventy thousand a year will buy now, I had had my honorable discharge from military service since my 21st birthday, I was born in 1944. I think every girl in my high school graduating class was married by age twenty. Some never finished high school, they were married before their senior year, one never even made it to freshman year. All the public school buses in this state at the time were driven by students who were sixteen or older. Most of us had been working on the family farm since we were big enough to do any kind of chore and or working for hire as soon as old enough to be legally employed part time.

What amazes me is that sometimes I hear people say that kids now are “more mature” than they used to be at the same age. What on Earth do they mean?
