Fifty-three-year-old Danny Heinrich of Annandale admitted in court Tuesday that he kidnapped, sexually assaulted and killed Jacob Wetterling on Oct. 22, 1989.
The admission is finally bringing answers to what happened to the 11-year-old boy almost 27 years ago, whose remains were found in Stearns County last week after Heinrich led investigators to the site.
“Danny Heinrich is no longer a person of interest,” U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Andrew Luger said after the court hearing. “He is the confessed murderer of Jacob Wetterling, and nearly 27 years after he committed this heinous crime, he has been brought to justice. And Jacob is finally home.”
Heinrich was in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis on Tuesday in front of Judge John Tunheim because he had been charged with 25 counts of child pornography in a separate case from Jacob’s abduction.

He already made a deal. 20 years in federal prison is the max he sentenced to. He’ll get that and most likely die in prison since he is in his 50’s now.

MN has no death penalty and twenty years is far too light a sentence for this scum. He should be hanging from a tree.

Murdered the boy in cold blood. Went on to molest another boy, but it is likely there were many more victims that never told their stories.

It’s not enough. This little boy should be a husband and father, staring down the barrel of the big 4-0. Not murdered and buried in a forgotten hole. When I heard the details on the news on the way home from work, I was glad for traffic to be crawling. I could do nothing but cry. I know it is wrong, but my only prayers are for this monster to suffer here and in the hereafter.
Most victims of child sexual abuse hold on to their stories up into their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s. Sometimes take it to their graves. Living a life of emotional scars.
My heart aches for this family.
We lived in a nearby state at the time. This was horrifying. I am relieved to know that Jacob was shot shortly after his abduction. At least he didn’t have to endure years of abuse. That being said, I hope this animal suffers greatly. I know we all held our children a lot closer when this story originally hit the news. Prayers for the Wetterling’s peace. I know it has been a long road for them.
If that was a low crime town, I wouldn’t be surprised if they left the key in the Bobcat. I’ve seen people do that more times than they should.
Plus when some of the certain demographic finds out his Dad was head of the local chapter of NAACP during that time.
