Philadelphia -- Summing up his foreign policy in three words, "peace through strength," Donald Trump today called on Congress to end the cuts to U.S. military spending.

"As soon as I take office, I will ask Congress to fully eliminate the defense sequester and will submit a new budget to rebuild our military," Trump told the Union League of Philadelphia in a speech focused on U.S. military readiness. "It is so depleted. We will rebuild our military."

The so-called military sequester was a part of the 2011 Budget Control Act, which mandated $500 million be cut from the military over the decade....

You go to war with the army you have, not the army you want.

The prospect of doing that, right now, today, is frightening.

This is one of the reasons I’m willing to vote for Trump.

Yes, she is.

I dont mean to sound crazy, but how could 600 million not be enough?

What is enough?

Is it all being spent properly?

I want the BEST military, but the best bang for my buck too.

Not thrilled that military couldn’t account for a few trillion over the past decade or so.

Why don’t we first stop the social engineering and PC nonsense in all the armed forces.

That’s sure to free up millions and boost morale at the same time.

Failing to do that guarantees much of any increase in defense spending essentially goes down the drain.

The same legislation that placed the sequester on defense spending also placed the controls on domestic spending. With both gone then where will any spending controls be?

It’s never enough. Hopefully Trump’s plan to get other countries to start paying for their protection cuts back on some of massive spending.

And in a rare moment of specificity, the normally vague Trump also revealed how he would fund his increased spending: in part "through responsible workforce attrition," the end of "funding programs that are not authorized in law" and a request that other member nations fulfill their financial obligations to NATO.

That's specific? Attrition of which workforce? Ending which funding programs? How will NATO members increasing their defense spending fund extra U.S. defense spending?

“How will NATO members increasing their defense spending fund extra U.S. defense spending?”

Because the US makes up for the lack of funds from the NATO nations that are not contributing 2% of GDP. And the list is long and it’s some of the wealthiest EU nations, so there’s a lot of money involved.

“Attrition of which workforce? Ending which funding programs?”

This involves the “mission creep” that every agency uses to grow their workforce of Federal employees. He is right on the mark and we are talking billions. Maybe you could have thought about it for at least a minute...this isn’t rocket science.

No they don't.

There's nothing specific in that. Every U.S. presidential candidate pledges to end waste, fraud, and abuse but none seem to be able to identify any that they eliminate.

Trump needs to tell the new kids on the block that when things get bad here for them they bomb stuff over there just because of a messy bj in the white house hence pattern of behavior

Must be a typo. 500mil cut over a decade is chicken feed.
