Yes, yes, yes we’ve heard it all before. But back to the original question, if the European countries did increase their defense spending then how would that result in more money for U.S. defense spending, as Trump seems to be claiming?

OK...I was hoping I wouldn’t need to spell it out for you, but here goes......

NATO has certain war game requirements, what if’s, event scenarios...where levels of force are needed to prevail. The US has been spending money to make up for force requirements for all these years to meet the threats, This is money that the US would not have to spend, therefor either it gets saved or reallocated to increase our overall readiness.

So Germany gets to promise it’s citizens cradle to grave financial security using the dollars it agreed to put into it’s military to do it’s part to prevail in these scenarios.

And this is not just Trump talking, Congress has been on it for years.
