What's funny right now is the press obsession with these issues is making them look foolish, on top of being incompetent, even as partisans.

Tax returns? Not important. Obama birthplace? Not relevant. Everybody wants answers to these! The voters always vote with incomplete information, and better to focus on policy, capability to lead, and other "looking forward" issues. It's up to the press to prioritize its coverage. If the press thinks Trump withholding tax returns, or answering where he stands now, on birther, is more important than immigration and economic policy, then that's what the press will cover (what the press thinks is more important).

The public doesn't pick what issues the press covers. The candidates don;t pick the issues the press will cover. The press picks the issues the press will cover.
