It's worth noting that it wasn't an agrarian, underdeveloped country that spawned Nazism -- it was a modern, advanced nation with a very high standard of living.

This is probably because people who live in a place where you can live comfortably even if you are completely unproductive will always find some zany cause to latch onto.

Are you referring to post WW1, pre WW2 Germany? Because if so, you’re mistaken. They had recovered from the economic hardships of the Treaty of Versailles because the US was buying their goods. Hitler actually couldn’t gain a foothold at that time and contemplated suicide. Then America lapsed into our Great Depression which also destroyed Germany’s economy. That’s when Hitler was able to commandeer the nation, viz. because the people were desperate for relief.
