Actually, it STARTED in the 1920s with the hard-line communist New York Times reporter Walter Duranty. This guy was so pro-Stalin that if Stalin stopped too fast Duranty’s nose would be 6 inches up his @$$.
He was instrumental on turning the New York Times into the communist party organ it is today.
In the 1930’s, Stalin spent millions on subverting American media and academians into Communists—all at Duranty’s recommendation.
It was only in the late 1940s/early 50s that we found out about the width and breadth of it. Even so, the media has made monsters out of the anti-communists of that time (McCarthy, Nixon) and heroes of the commies—movies The Front and Trumbo.
The pro-commie movie (Walter Beatty’s) Reds is based on Duranty’s “work”.
