NBC on Trump reporting the NYC incident as a bomb, vs Hillary's remarks hours later (wiser to wait for information before reaching conclusions). Todd says Trump is looking more like old Trump making unscripted remarks. Challenging Hillary starting the birther story. Chuk also asserting that rump suggested violence against Clinton with his recent disarm her bodyguards comment.
NBC on to Kaine. 1st Q on NYC, NY and Minnesota unrelated events, creates concern that terrorism is part of life, and what can a president do? Kaine says experience matters, Hillary was at 9/11, she is part of the national security team that got bin Laden. Key is having intelligence and strong alliances, e.g., NATO. Is this a new normal that Americans have to deal with? No.
ABC on Pence ... first Q must have been on birtherism. Pence wants to talk about issues. Radditz comes back to the bowl, why did it take Trump so long to say that Obama was born in the US? Pence starts to answer, Radditz interrupts, counting Trump tweets from 2011 to 2014 - Pence says there are reports that Hillary campaign was involved, Radditz interrupts again. Pence says this issue is not what the people are talking about. Trump didn't talk about it during the campaign., Pence understands why Hillary and her defenders in the press want to distract from Hillary's record. The people see through the distraction. Radditz says people are talking about birtherism. Do you think Trump should have promoted this in years gone by. Pence says we are focused on the future. Radditz asks again what is the proof that Hillary started it. Pence says look at McClatchy and others. Radditz says she disagrees. Pence says he understands the press intention to change the subject to birtherism.
Good responses by Pence. Radditz is a jerk. She is going to persist on the birtherism question. Trump is proud of tricking the press on Friday, should he be doing this? Pence laughs at Radditz. Says Trump brought out MOH recipients and endorsements, and the press covered it. That is important. He pivots to terrorism and strength of military.
Radditz pivots to Robert Gates OpEd. Pence says he has lots of respect for Gates, but Gates is wrong. Many retired military stand with Trump, who proposes to rebuild the military. Gates was part of the Obama admin withdrawal from Iraq, which was a disaster, no Status of Forces agreement, vacuum allowed ISIS to step in. Gates may not want to hear that, but it is true.
Radditz changes subject to Hillary's secret service detail should disarm, what dis he mean by that? Pence says that the suggestion is that Hillary would be more supportive of the 2nd amendment if she didn't have armed security. Radditz says, no, people think this was a threat. Pence says, all due respect, the press talks more about what Trump did in the last day than what Clinton did over years, Clinton Foundation, her health,m decades of dishonesty. Radditz gets defensive.
