Syrian Army declares ceasefire over, unclear if it will be renewed

The initial seven days of the nationwide ceasefire in Syria have run their course, the Syrian Army has declared. It did not add whether the truce will be reinstated in the near future. The Syrian Army's statement blames “terrorist groups” for jeopardizing the cessation of hostilities, Reuters reports.

"It was assumed that the ceasefire will present a real chance to end the bloodshed, but terrorist groups did not adhere to any of the points of the agreement on a ceasefire, the number of violations on their part has exceeded 300," reads the statement published by SANA news.

Guess they got tired of being told to sit still while Obama bombs them.

You guess wrong. The “rebel” groups already said they won’t honor the ceasefire. The whole ceasefire charade is just Putin trying to jerk around and embarrass the United States.

When they say "terrorist groups" they mean The Government of the United States.

“The whole ceasefire charade is just Putin trying to jerk around and embarrass the United States.”

That’s an easy enough task, seeing as those inside the Beltway have been a joke for eight years now.

As I was reading over the weekend, during a cease fire, the U.S.- les coalition (read: U.S) decided to ‘accidentally’ bomb the Syrian Army.

I guess friendly-fire bombing runs are common during cease fire period. Man, I gotta bone up on the laws of modern day warfare.

... or, we can just blame Putin for the whole mess.

Do I even need to add an /s tag?

So, are the DoD-armed “rebels” still fighting the CIA-armed “rebels”?

A ceasefire and negotiations only workable if you have two sides that are willing to compromise and somehow coexist. For the rebels, any option that keeps Assad in power won't be acceptable to them, and for Assad, any option that removes him from power won't be acceptable. What is the point of going through the motions of ceasefires and negotiations when the only possible resolution will be one side eventually crushing the other?

Furthermore, how is John Kerry's proposal to protect the "moderate" rebels while agreeing to fight the Al Nusra front rebels supposed to be workable when Al Nusra fighters (unlike ISIS) are mixed in and usually welcomed by the other rebel groups? The "moderate" rebels are basically Al Nusra or Al Nusra allies, they're only "moderate" because they aren't quite as psychotic as ISIS.

By “United States” you mean the Obama Doctrine of aiding and abetting Islamic destabilization and terror in any vulnerable country.

Hard may it be jerked.

Long may it be embarrassed.

Soon may it face war crimes tribunals.

We’ve only got another 100 days and change to kick the kenyan around. OTOH, KGB Vlad and his BFF Death to America Iran are not going anywhere.

You are sadly mistaken if you think President Trump will allow that scum to run the Middle East and export their anti-American agenda to us.

Stupid comment. R+6 had the upper hand and was liquidating the jihadi resistance. The U.S. pushed for the cease-fire with the hope of propping up their jihadis. Putin is on the side of secular SAA, while the U.S. is siding with the FSA and assorted jihadis. The U.S. wants Assad out of there and are doing everything they can to facilitate this. Russia would rather see a secular government over an Sunnite Islamist regime which would persecute and/or slaughter Christians, Alewite, and any other non-hardcore Sunnis.

I just have to say that our bombing of the Syrian army is one of the dumbest thing I have seen militarily. I must add that we have no right to be in Syria under international law what so ever. Syria is a sovereign nation. What are we doing there without the express invitation of elected government of Syria. Russia is invited there to fight Isis and to fight the insurgents. We are not invited there. When we bombed the army of Syria I would assume we came damned close to bombing RUSSIANS!!It was an outrageous aggression against a sovereign nation that has never done a thing against the USA. We have no dog in that fight and we need to get the Hell out of there.

The kenyan doing “everything he can”? LOL. He’s provably doing hardly anything

So Putin is partnering with Death to America Islamic Iran because he wants a “secular Syria”? Nonsense. Putin wants a client state in the ME, project the influence of Putinist Russia, block any pipelines to Europe, etc.

If Trump becomes a clone of the neocon and left interventionist chickenhawks, we will all have been duped.

US foreign policy is a rolling atrocity at present, and has been for years.
