‘ICANN is the Internet equivalent of a phonebook. They can be replaced by literally anyone. There are already many alternatives.’

Please explain.

They have copyrighted code that registers domain names. Outside of US jurisdiction, other nations would gladly back their claim to copyright protection.

They have more experience dating back to ARPANET volunteers.

I assume they have backdoors in their code.

They are trying to trick us ...

ICANN, a Pack of Liars

So please assure me that there’s an easy fix.

Those screaming “mah freedoms” are just regurgitating media sensationalism. ICANN has for several years now wanted to have a more global environment to write policy for the internationalization of DNS. Being an American corporation, there were restricted by American regulation. Additionally, ICANN has operated outside the US Department of Commerce since 2009, they are simply moving to a new country of operation. The internet “phone book” will become larger with more domain names available that might upset people/corporations in the US because of their direction and or name. .XXX, .cokeacola, .fordsucks, .mormonlies, names like these could go up for sale to the highest bidder upsetting certain corps, political personalities and religious groups in the US.

I think it’s also a fair bet that Google will be glad to work with foreign ICANN branches and/or factions.

They can use their search engine software to cluster online complaint petitions instantly.

So when the Sweden Plan kicks in, [aka ‘global governence’ to stop ‘hate speech’] it will be easy and quick. It’s just a matter of when they want to do it. Probably after the election.

I’ve read some of your backgrounders.

So what effective action can be done prior to Sept 30?

You’ve suggested impeaching Obama over this. That will NEVER happen.

What can Congress do at this point, especially if Obama’s pen and phone are in action?

I am happy to call my senators’ offices, but what would I say? I’m not going to suggest impeachment - I’ll be written off as a nut job.

So, for the record, you aren't concerned about a foreign, non-American entity's control overseeing the internet?

Do you not think it's possible that freedom of speech could be controlled or that taxation wouldn't occur?

I'm not criticizing you, I'm only curious of your views.

Is Paul Rosenzweig a mindless sensationalist screaming “mah freedoms”?

Are Senator Sessions and Grassley in the same basket?

Grassley specifically agrees with Rosenzweig in almost every category.

Paul Rosenzweig the ‘sensationalist screamer’ ...

Former Homeland administrator.

Runs a firm that consults for Homeland.

Author of cyberware research and freedom of speech concerns.

ADVISER to ICANN’s transition process — some of his advise was adopted.

In addition, corporations, governments, individuals create domain names by the dozens than file a copyright claim to it. If Freerepublic decided to use .republic it might already be copyrighted by another entity and therefore would be rejected. Freerepublic would have to use the .com.

No, we should not - but we will.

obama has already done it, and the effect will be censorship, fines, and jail for dissenting opinions.

All of obama’s favorite stuff.

‘So what effective action can be done prior to Sept 30?’

Feel free to support congress with their legislation. Who knows? I hope I’m wrong.

IMHO the best thing we can do now is take down names, spread info to others, copy research to hard drives and flash drives, and brace ourselves for the worst.

There is too little public awareness.

In anarchy, the internet is all about tech.

Expertise.

ICANN was started up by ARPANET pioneers. They have more expertise in registering domain names than the rest of the world put together.

I would rather keep them happy here in the US.

But Obama spread discord in the ICANN team and tempted them to move.

If bad goes to worse we can amend the constitution punitively — an excoriation amendment. And we would need to network outside the internet or via webmaster trickery.

But I doubt it will get that bad. As awareness increases, I hope they soften their goals.

‘The whole internet can not be controlled.’

Knowledge is power.

ICANN knows the internet registration system inside out.

And google knows how to mass-search data.

In an anarchial struggle between foreign powers, those two would be far more powerful than google ever was on its own.

This week will be heating up....On Wednesday, Sean Duffy, GOP Rep from Wisconsin, will be updating on his Facebook and his website regarding the Internet Giveaway and the bills being introduced to stop it.

HOUSE BILL HR5418 WILL BE READY FOR A VOTE...WE NEED TO CONTACT OUR CONGRESS REPS TO SUPPORT THE PROTECTION INTERNET FREEDOM ACT, HR5418.*

SENATE COMPLEMENTARY BILL IS SB3034.*

*Numbers could change, but it is the Protection of Internet Freedom Act.

KEY IS GETTING IT VOTED ON THIS TERM. I WILL BE CONTACTING MY REP AND SENATORS ASKING THEM TO VOTE FOR THESE BILLS.

I ALSO WILL BE CONTACTING RYAN AND MCCONNELL OFFICES TO PRESSURE THEM TO BRING THE VOTE TO FLOOR.
